Welcome to the Inspire Tech workshop on Wikispaces:
What is a wiki?
A wiki is a shared website where members can add/share content for others. Simply a wiki is a community webpage. It is like having a car that is shared by a group of people that anyone can, drive repaint, repower or change at will. More importantly all changes can simply be 'undone' easily :).
The most commonly known wiki is Wikipedia where a vast community of 'experts' have compiled a word wide community encyclopaedia where content is constantly being uploaded and added to.
In an educational sense as used by Wintec tutors: Wikis can be used as a collaborative activity for Students: For example sharing websites, brainstorming activities, groupwork, uploading content for others to comment on, organising students etc.... Wikis are very open and the used is unlimited......
How can wikispaces be linked from Moodle
The simplest way to link to a wikispace is via a simple web link.
What is the difference between a wiki in wikispaces and Moodle?
They are both wikis: Both can be edited by a group of people :). The wikispace wiki is independent of Wintec and is more permanent and can be used long after a module has finished: so could become a resource for a group of students after they graduate from Wintec. The wikispace wiki has more features such as the embedding of widgets.
Why is wikispaces free?
Because they carry advertisements on the side. If a wikispace wiki is being used for educational purposes there is an option in the Manage Wiki where you can submit your wiki to wikispaces and they will remove the advertisements.
